Contrasting geophysical signatures of a relict and an intact Andean rock glacier

Abstract. In semi-arid Chile, rock glaciers cover more surface area than and are potentially important water reserves. To understand their current future hydrological role, it is necessary to characterize internal structure (e.g. boundaries ice, air, content). this study, we present the results interpretations of profiles electrical resistivity refraction seismic tomography collected on two contrasting in Chilean Andes located at headwaters Elqui River within Estero Derecho nature reserve. These geophysical measurements interpreted both independently jointly through a scheme petrophysical four-phase inversion. first situ confirm that El Ternero (intact glacier) contains significant volume ground while Jote little no ice (relict glacier). Within our highlight strong differences responses between intact relict propose diagnostic model differentiates them.
